I Can Hear the Future
by John Townsend
I can hear the question mark after your
‘I love you’
That follows your ‘I need you’
But worst of all
I can see the full stop
At the end of our relationship .
John Townsend is a retired teacher after 33 years of teaching physics. He enjoys the outdoors, especially cycling and walking. He has written poetry since his teens and had one poem published in the British Poetry Review 1995. He has performed at open mic nights at the Brewery in Kendal and Spotlight in Lancaster. This poem was written after seeing a group of rather scary looking punks in a pub a few years ago and reflecting that for all the ‘masks’ of make up and imagery they were wearing, they were just as vulnerable as me underneath.
